Services

Pipes and ducts which pass through floors separating habitable rooms must be in an enclosure, which should be constructed as follows:

• the material of the enclosure should have a mass of at least 15kg/m².
• the enclosure should be lined, or the pipes wrapped, with 25mm unfaced mineral wool.
• a 3mm gap, filled with caulking or neoprene should be allowed between the enclosure and the floating layer. Alternatively Monarfloor flanking isolation strip may be used.

Penetrations in a separating floor should have flexible fire protection (see Approved Document B), and ducts containing gas pipes must be constructed in accordance with the Gas Safety Regulations.
